Festival of Trees

The 2008 Festival of Trees is scheduled for November 28 – December 22, Monday – Thursday, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m., and Friday until 8 p.m. The Preview Party will be held Thursday, Nov. 27. The festival reopens after the holidays for December 26 – 28 and January 2 – 4, 2009, 1 – 3 p.m.  For more information, please call 508-228-1894, ext. 130.

Opening Christmas Stroll weekend each year, the Festival of Trees transforms the Whaling Museum into magical woodland of about seventy brilliantly decorated holiday trees. From the traditional to the whimsical, each tree is decorated by members of the community, including schoolchildren, artists and artisans, merchants and nonprofit organizations.  Kicking off the event is the tremendously popular Preview Party, which features “Nantucket Delights” from a dozen of the island’s top restaurants. Throughout December, more than 2,000 visitors, including groups from Nantucket’s schools and senior centers, enjoy the annual event that has engaged and enchanted the community for fourteen years.

Special thanks to Mary Malavase for chairing the 2007 festival committee; to all of the “Angels” and “Stars” for their leadership support; and to the Nantucket Bank, a division of Sovereign Bank, for being the lead underwriter for the thirteenth year.
