Joan Galon King New Director of Membership and Development

Nantucket Historical AssociationThe Nantucket Historical Association is pleased to announce the hiring of Joan Galon King in the position of Director of Membership and Development. Joan will officially begin her duties in her new position on Wednesday, January 18, 2012.

Joan holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Marketing from St. Joseph’s University, and spent the last twenty-one years building an extremely impressive resume as a development officer. Her past positions include working with the Foundation for New Jersey Public Broadcasting, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Liberty Science Center. She most recently served as the Chief Advancement Officer at Bancroft in Haddonfield, New Jersey, an organization dedicated to supporting individuals with autism, brain injuries, and other challenges. “I am passionate about Nantucket and I am delighted to have the opportunity to join the NHA and contribute to moving its mission forward,” Joan said of joining the NHA staff. “The combination of working for an organization I have long admired paired with becoming a year-round resident of Nantucket makes for a very exciting time.”

In her new position as Director of Membership and Development, Joan will be responsible for overseeing all fund-raising efforts at the NHA, as well as working directly with the NHA membership to ensure the continued financial well-being of the Association. NHA Associate Director Johanna Richard said, “We’re very excited to have such a talented and accomplished person taking on this incredibly important role.”

Joan and her husband Gary – longtime Nantucket summer residents – have been seeking a permanent relocation to the island for many years, and we are very pleased that they will be coming to the island to live full-time and that Joan will be lending her expertise to the NHA. Bill Tramposch, Executive Director of the NHA, said of the hiring, “Our nationwide search attracted an impressive array of very well-qualified applicants for this crucial position. In the end, Joan was our unanimous choice.”
