In keeping with what has become an island tradition for both young and old, the Nantucket Historical Association is delighted to host the return of the Walden Chamber Players in concert on Friday, September 23, at 7:00 P.M., followed by a second concert on Sunday, September 25, at 12:00 P.M. Both concerts will be held in the Whaling Museum, 13 Broad Street.
Founded in 1997, the Walden Chamber Players present educational curricula and concerts designed to showcase rarely heard works by composers of the past as well as music by contemporary composers. These dynamic artists perform various combinations of string and wind ensembles, and the Walden Chamber Players “highlight the belief that music is the human experience translated into sound.” Based in New England, the ensemble performs in some of the most prestigious venues throughout the United States.
On Friday, September 23 at 7 P.M., the Walden Chamber Players will draw from a rich palette of sources and styles, in a performance that mixes the works of both classical and contemporary composers with an eye to new musical discoveries, all with the jaw-dropping backdrop of the Whaling Museum.
On Sunday, September 25, from 12:00 - 1:00 P.M., the Walden Chamber Players return to the Whaling Museum for an interactive and informative concert focusing on the creative process of composing and performing works of music, culminating in a performance of "Sankaty Dreaming," a string quartet written by composer Carson Cooman after an inspirational visit to Nantucket's signature lighthouse.
Admission for the Friday, September 23 evening concert is $10 for NHA members and $20 for nonmembers. The concert on Sunday, September 25 is free with museum admission.
