2011 August Antiques Show Theme: "Moving Antiques Into The 21st Century."

NANTUCKET: The Nantucket Historical Association’s 34th Annual August Antiques Show, one of the island’s most eagerly anticipated summer events and one of the nation’s leading antique shows, kicks off this week under the tent at Bartlett’s Farm. This year’s show is subscribing to the theme “Moving Antiques into the 21st Century,” a nod to the idea that antiques are themselves timeless pieces that can just as easily be utilized in a modern living space as they can an older one. Said August Antiques Show Chair Sara Boyce, “We’re bringing antiques into the modern day.”

Related to the forward-looking theme is a new addition to this year’s show, the Designer Panel Discussion, entitled “Incorporating Antiques into a Contemporary Home.” Featuring three of the country’s brightest stars in interior design – Susan Zises Green, Kathleen Hay and Victoria Hagen – attendees of the show on Friday, August 5, will have the chance to glean valuable insight into the design process at the discussion at 9:30 AM in the tent.

From its relatively humble beginnings in 1974, the August Antiques Show has grown into one of the most highly-anticipated antiques-related events in New England. Over forty antiques dealers are scheduled to attend the show this year, including some of the top vendors from Massachusetts, Connecticut New York and points further. Stacy Stuart, Special Events Manager for the Nantucket Historical Association, said of the August Antiques Show, “As an organization, the NHA is proud of what the Antiques Show has become and we are proud to bring it to the people of Nantucket every year, as it dovetails perfectly with the Association’s mission to deliver to our audiences engaging exhibitions that illuminate history in unique ways.”

Show hours are Friday and Saturday, August 5 and 6, from 10 AM – 5 PM, and Sunday, August 7, from 10 AM – 4 PM. Tickets for the event are $15, and may be purchased at the door; a single ticket is good for entry all three days of the show. Parking is available at the farm, or the NHA is providing courtesy shuttle service from their administrative offices at 15 Broad Street.
