NANTUCKET, MA: The Nantucket Historical Association (NHA) announces that its 34th Annual August Antiques Show will be held August 5–7, under the tent at Bartlett’s Farm, 33 Bartlett Farm Road, Nantucket, Mass.
Chaired by Sara Boyce, with Anne Marie Bratton as vice chair, the August Antiques Show is the major fund-raising event for the NHA’s preservation and education programs, and is managed by the Antiques Council, an organization dedicated to ensuring the quality and authenticity of antiques and historical works of art.
“While most people look back at history when they talk about antiques, we are bringing antiques forward with the theme Moving Antiques into the 21st Century,” says Boyce. “We are thrilled to welcome the iconic designer Victoria Hagan as our Honorary Chair. In addition to offering expert panels about antiques and design, we will have intimate gatherings in the homes of some of the island’s top collectors.
“Our dedicated committee has enthusiastically embraced our new direction,” says Boyce, who is delighted to be working with such an established show that brings so many celebrated dealers, collectors, and underwriters to Nantucket. “To satisfy the growing interest in collecting and being part of the NHA, we will debut a Young Collectors Committee at this year’s Antiques Show.” Events will include “Ask the Experts” tours at the show and opportunities to talk to leading designers about incorporating antiques into a contemporary home, as well as various social events throughout the year, both off and on island.
Antiques Show Week begins Tuesday, August 2, at 6 P.M., with a lecture by Michael K. Brown, Curator, Bayou Bend Collections, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Sponsored by the Friends of the Nantucket Historical Association, the lecture is held at the Whaling Museum with a reception following.
For the eighth consecutive year, the August Antiques Show Preview Party is sponsored by Eaton Vance Investment Counsel. Held under the air-conditioned tent at Bartlett’s Farm on Thursday, August 4, 6–9 P.M., the Preview Party affords guests the opportunity to preview an impressive array of fine art; maritime, English, and American antiques; Oriental rugs; books; and Nantucket memorabilia. A highlight of the week, the Antiques Show Dinner on Saturday, August 6, is hosted for the thirteenth year by Trianon / Seaman Schepps and features entertainment by Jake Heggie, composer of the nationally acclaimed opera Moby-Dick.
