Walk This Way…NHA Introduces New Historic House Walking Tour To Begin May 28

NANTUCKET MA: Formal front parlors, walk-in fireplaces with beehive ovens, an eclectic 1930s summer salon... The Nantucket Historical Association (NHA) invites you to visit three historic NHA houses from the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries during its new walking tour.

The tour begins at the Hadwen House, 96 Main Street, rain or shine. An elegant 1845 Greek Revival home filled with treasures brought to the island on returning whaleships, the property represents the most prosperous period in Nantucket’s past. The Macy-Christian House, built in 1745, demonstrates the “Colonial Revival” style so popular on Nantucket for much of the twentieth century. The tour concludes at the restored home and garden of Hanna and Gertrude Monaghan, known as Greater Light. Built as a livestock barn in 1790, and remodeled into a summer home in 1929–33, the house and garden have been undergoing a three-year restoration project by the NHA, which acquired the property as a bequest from Hanna Monaghan in 1970.

May 28 – October 10 (no tour July 4), daily, 2:15 p.m. $10 adults; $8 seniors (65+); $4 youth (6-17). Free for NHA members. Tickets may be purchased at the Whaling Museum admission desk or at the Hadwen House just prior to the tour. Free for NHA members.
