NHA’s 1800 House Class Schedule and Student Scholarships Now available for 2011 season.
NANTUCKET MA: The Nantucket Historical Association’s (NHA) 1800 House early-American Arts and Crafts 2011 class schedule is now available. The NHA is also pleased to offer year-round Nantucket residents, between the ages of thirteen and twenty-five, the opportunity to apply for scholarships to be used toward classes in early-American Arts and Crafts at the NHA’s 1800 House. Funds are available to underwrite the cost of a limited number of enrollments, and students will be accepted—based on their applications—on a first-come, first-served basis.
Classes begin in June and are offered through October. More than fifty varied course listings include (but are not limited to): bandboxes, sailors valentines, bentwood willow chairs, penwork, fabric lampshades, shorebird woodcarving, hooked rugs, Shaker boxes, and making a tin weather vane. Classes range from one-day workshops, to three-day classes, and some classes meet once a week for three weeks.
This scholarship program provides a wonderful opportunity to learn traditional Nantucket crafts taught by instructors—all of whom are leaders in their fields—from throughout New England as well as Nantucket. All classes are held in the historic 1800 House, a 200-year-old building owned by the Nantucket Historical Association, located at 4 Mill Street.
