Collection Overview:
Chiefly a Case Book, recording symptoms and
treatments of diseases and injuries of local and transient patients.
Historical Note: Dr. John B. King was born on May 23, 1808. He
was a doctor for Nantucket residents and foreign seamen until his death
on July 27, 1889.
FOLDER 1
Dr. John B. King (1808-1889) Case Book 1852 - 1872. Detailed description
of symptoms.and his treatment of diseases such as Typhoid Fever,
Paralysis, Apoplexy, reactions to vaccine and of fractures cysts. His
patients were residents of Nantucket or seamen who came into Nantucket on
ships. Among those persons treated were: Charles Albert; William Henry,
New York City, 2nd Mate; Mrs. Charlotte Andrews; Horace Hewitt; Mary
Chase Barnard; Mrs. Sarah Kingsley; Obed Chase; Samuel Mitchell; George
Coggeshall; George Parker; Benjamin Folger II; Stephen Parker; Moses
Folger; Rebecca B. Swain; Mrs. Sarah Folger; Sarah Swain; Emily C.
Gardner; Henry Swan; Temperance Green; Jared W. Tracy.

Certificate for degree of Doctor of Medicine and Surgery from New York
University (document in Latin; difficult to decipher). Attached is a
certificate registering Dr. King to practice in New York, 1832.
