The Other Islanders

Frances Karttunen documents the diversity of Nantucket's population through the centuries. Beginning with the people already resident when English settlement began in 1659, Karttunen chronicles survivals, arrivals, and changes. Available here online.

Keeping History

In the summer of 2004, Georgen Gilliam Charnes wrote a column for a local newspaper, The Inquirer and Mirror. Some of the articles are reproduced here.

"Identify this" column

Every week for two years, the Nantucket Independent has run a column with a photograph that needs identifying or more information, selected by NHA staff member Georgen Charnes.
