This pair of late-nineteenth-century signs from an unidentified business was displayed on the store’s corner. Providing “oil clothing” to fishermen and others who worked on the water was common down on the wharves, as attested by the sign “Oiled Clothing for Sale or to Let” at Adam’s Boat House on Steamboat Wharf in the 1890s.
