Quaise
1920s to 1930s

The Miriam Coffin T House, an ivy-covered house with french doors, was on a knoll in Quaise and was a popular out-of-town spot. It was named after the title character in Miriam Coffin, or, the Whale-Fishermen, a romantic novel by Joseph C. Hart, first published in 1834.

David Wood remembers the Miriam Coffin T House as “a small house on the left-hand side of the road to the Hidden Forest” where he often went for tea; it also served sandwiches and waffles.
