Nantucket Memorial Airport
1946 to 1960s

The lunch counter at the airport was run by Alma Holdgate, whose husband, Allen, ran Nantucket Flying Service after World War II. The original airport buildings were the old Navy structure and Quonset huts, with the new “addition” going up in 1951. The Airport Grill later was under the direction of Wilfred “Rocky” Rock and his wife, Ginger. They took over the lobby and redid the lunch counter in an L-shape, in the northwest corner of the building where Nantucket Flying Service had been.
