Gull Island Lane
Vera Jaeckle
1940s to 1950s

After working in the restaurant as a chef, Vera Jaeckle purchased and ran this inn and restaurant on Gull Island Lane (the restaurant was in the barn behind the inn), around the corner from the North Shore Restaurant. At the time, the property really was on an island and had a drawbridge to access the inn. According to many who dined there, it was “a most delightful place to eat.” Mrs. Jaeckle’s daughters Joan and Jeanne worked in the dining room as teenagers (their sister Jane was too young).

In 1948, Joan Jaeckle’s high school class held its graduation dinner in the Barn.
