Steamboat Wharf
Charles Glidden Sr.
1895 to present

One of the island’s longest- running businesses, this family fish market was founded in 1895 by Charles S. Glidden, a codfisherman. His son, Walter Glidden Sr., ran the business on Steamboat Wharf with Horace Orpin as partner, handing it down to Walter Glidden Jr., whose son David continues it today in a new location outside of town.

Ruth Chapel Grieder recalls Walter Glidden Jr. taking bags of fish and quahogs to his store from Tuckernuck, and Francis Pease remembers selling him scallops.
