Alexander Folger and Rebecca Folger, ca. 1813

Rebecca, the youngest daughter of Walter and Elizabeth Folger, married Nantucket cooper Alexander Folger. This family record, probably painted by herself, illustrates the middle Nantucket style, dated between 1790 and 1820, consisting of fielded hearts with a pair of entwined vines flowering with bluebells, carnations, fuchsias and berries. The two vines bearing fruit and flowers represent the father and mother. Of their five children shown, all except William died before attaining adulthood.
