One of the earliest Nantucket family records, painted as a memorial piece upon the death of Ebenezer Gardner Jr. in 1778. The register celebrates Gardner’s marriage to Ruth Beard in 1751. Twin hearts are embedded in a representative circular mound of earth, with a ribbon connecting the stems of the two roses marking the date of the marriage, and the names of ten children inscribed on pods.
