Memorial for Zaccheus Coffin and Thankful Joy, 1778

Painted as a memorial for Zaccheus Coffin upon his death in 1778 “in captivity in Algiers.” The register celebrates Coffin’s marriage to Thankful Joy in 1770. Two hearts set in the traditional curved mound represent the married couple, with two prominent down turned roses as emblems of their children.
