Sailors Valentine Ornament, with Elizabeth Braun
Tuesday, September 28: 4 - 7 P.M.
Member $35; Nonmember $50
The myth: on whaling voyages, sailors filled their idle hours making sailors valentines as gifts for their loved ones.
The truth: Sailors valentines were made on the island of Barbados, a stop on the return of the whaling vessels, and sold as
souvenirs.
Using a three-inch cherry box, created just for the NHA 1800 House program, each student will create a mini-valentine destined to become an heirloom. A wide selection of seashells is provided, as are all tools and supplies required to complete this project.
