Wednesday, September 8, to Friday, September 10: 9 A.M.–1 P.M.
Member $250; Nonmember $300
In the early nineteenth century, reverse painting on glass was a common decoration for the top panel of a looking glass or on a clock tablet. One eglomise technique for glass is that of etched gold leaf. Choose from several traditional images to “draw” onto the gold leaf, which is then backed with oil paint. The panel will become the top of a small box. You will learn how to lay gold leaf on glass, etching, and faux-graining the box.

Mary Emery Lacoursiere graduated from Pratt Institute with an M.F.A. in printmaking and painting. She had a studio in New York City for fifteen years, specializing in hand-painted sisal rugs, murals, and restoring historical painting. A member of the Historical Society of Early American Decoration since 1978, Mary has been a contributing artist for Lifetime Television and Hearst Entertainment and currently owns and operates Emery Design here on Nantucket. www.maryemerydesign.com
