Chair Caning and Fiber Rush, with Elizabeth Coffin
Monday, September 13, to Thursday, September 16: 9 A.M.–1 P.M.
Member $225; Nonmember $275

Reclaim your favorite chair. Participants can bring their own chairs or select one from the 1800 House inventory and learn how to ready them for repair; to select the proper size cane; and, in seven steps, to restore the original seat pattern. Or, depending upon your chair, learn the fiber-rush method of weaving, using twisted rush to weave from the outside of a frame toward the center. Upon registration, students will arrange with Liz to examine chairs before the class to determine appropriate materials and any necessary repairs.

All materials provided. Maximum class size: 6

Elizabeth Coffin has been creating from an early age. Instructed by her grandmother, she became accomplished in many disciplines such as knitting, needle arts, and sewing. She has also taught professionally for Erica Wilson. Liz’s work in chair caning and rush began with Peter Wilson in 2008. Her current work combines caning, rush, and needlework with small furniture, chairs, stools, and fire screens.
