The craft of sailors valentines is made small. Using the techniques of the shell collages of the whaling days and small shells with a range of natural colors and very tiny shells, students will create patterns and texture to fill the small 3" octagonal, cherry box, made just for this class. These little treasures boxes will necessitate using all the techniques in a full-sized valentine but with the smallest of shells.
All materials provided. Maximum class size: 10

ELIZABETH BRAUN, a Nantucket resident, has been creating sailors valentines for more than fifteen years; they can be seen at Nantucket Looms. Her work has blended early techniques and designs with a contemporary approach to color and texture.
