Scherensnitte Vase and Pressed Flowers, with Bee Shay

The 1800 House Scherensnitte class, German paper cutting, popular in the 1800s and into the early 1900s, with a unique twist for flower lovers. This year’s three-day workshop will include cutting a variety of beautiful paper vases, baskets and containers, and dried and pressed real blooms to fill them with. Imagine a beautiful basket filled with hydrangea blooms made from paper and pressed flowers. The class will include instruction for the Scherensnitte, the process to dry and press the flowers, and how to grain a frame in the traditional style to complete one piece from beginning to end.

BEE SHAY has been a folk artist and oil painter for almost thirty years, teaching theorem painting, stenciling, and faux finishes nationally since 1991. She has apprenticed under members of the Historical Society of Early American Decoration. For nearly ten years she was actively involved in Stencil Artisans League, Inc., (SALI) a nonprofit organization dedicated to teaching and furthering traditional American folk art. Currently, Bee is a resident of Nantucket and continues teaching nationally.
