Paper Making, with June Tyler
Tuesday, June 23, to Thursday, June 25: 9 A.M.–1 P.M.
Member $225; Nonmember $275

Students will make pulp from plant fibers and experiment with indigenous fibers, such as seaweed. Using this pulp, participants will learn the techniques to produce beautiful sheets of handmade paper, which then can be made into a simple book or lantern. Techniques covered will include laminating, embedding (adding flat natural objects and cloth), pulp painting, and pressing. Students will gain appreciation of an ancient tradition, dating back to first-century China and Egypt, and have the opportunity to express themselves in a nontoxic, multifaceted medium. Each student will complete several sheets of handmade paper and a book or lantern.

All materials provided. Maximum class size: 8
