Bobbin Lace, with Evelyn Gant

Bobbin lace is created with the aid of a firmly stuffed pillow and multiple pairs of bobbins. This particular type of lace was popular during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries and was highly valued by monarchies. Beginning students will learn the basic stitches and techniques used in making Torchon lace. Experienced students are also welcome, as class projects will be geared to abilities. Lacemaking pillows, bobbins, pins, and threads will be supplied for the class.

EVELYN GANT has been demonstrating and teaching fiber arts for more than thirty-five years. She has extensively studied a variety of lace forms with several internationally known teachers and has taught at crafts schools as well as at elementary and secondary schools around New England. Her work has been exhibited at the Wood Art Gallery, Helen Day Art Center, and other locations in Vermont.
