NHA News Release: January 20, 2012

Winter Discovery Days Family Program Begins January 31

Looking for something to do with the kids during the slow days of winter? The Nantucket Historical Association invites children ages 3 -11 to our Winter Discovery Days, Tuesdays and Thursdays, January 31 – March 29, from 2:30 – 4:30 PM inside the NHA Whaling Museum at 13 Broad Street. There will be extended hours during school vacation week, when Winter Discovery Days will be offered daily from February 27 – March 2, 1:00 – 4:00 PM.

Made possible by a generous grant from the Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank Charitable Foundation Trust, Winter Discovery Days feature afternoon activities, including making arts-and-crafts and exploring historical artifacts. Tuesdays are Narrative Days, when participants will hear a story from Nantucket history and then create crafts related to that story. Thursdays are Artifact Days, when children will be deputized as “Junior Curators,” and then examine items from the vast collections of the NHA’s historical artifacts, followed by a workshop in which they will make similar artifacts to take home.

The program is free for Nantucket children and their families. Groups of children are welcome, but they must be accompanied by adult companions. For more information, see the calendar or call 508-228-1894, ext. 0.
