Celebrate Art Inspired by Nantucket History
OPEN HOUSE & GARDEN RECEPTION AT THE 1800 HOUSE

NANTUCKET, Mass.:Celebrate the creative spirit of art inspired by Nantucket history at an open house and garden reception at the 1800 House on Thursday, July 28, 5–7 P.M., at 4 Mill Street.

Meet the instructors and students, and see examples of the wide range of Early American arts and crafts taught at the Nantucket Historical Association’s 1800 House. There will also be a silent auction of works crafted and contributed by several instructors, including a shell mirror, penwork lazy susan, band boxes, carved shorebird, and a hooked rug. Don’t miss this opportunity to take home a treasure!

From June through November, the 1800 House provides the opportunity to learn traditional Nantucket crafts taught by instructors—all of whom are leaders in their fields—from throughout New England as well as Nantucket. More than fifty classes are offered, including bandboxes, sailors valentines, bentwood willow chairs, penwork, fabric lampshades, shorebird woodcarving, hooked rugs, Shaker boxes, and tin weathervanes. Classes range from one-day workshops to three-day classes, and some classes meet once a week for three weeks. All classes are held in the historic surroundings of the 1800 House, which was restored by the Nantucket Historical Association and opened in 2005 as a center for instruction in traditional Nantucket arts and crafts.
