NANTUCKET, MA: Guided Tour Takes You Inside Main Street Mansions On June 4

NANTUCKET, MA: Ever wish you could step inside a mansion on Main Street and see what it looks like?

Join the Nantucket Historical Association for the Main Street Mansions Walking Tour on Saturday, June 4, 10 A.M.–Noon, and you’ll get a guided tour of these rarely seen house interiors. Included are the stately Henry Coffin House, at 75 Main Street, which is now undergoing meticulous restoration; the NHA’s opulent Hadwen House, at 96 Main Street; and the Thomas Macy House, at 99 Main Street.

“The mansions along Main Street were the homes of many of Nantucket’s most successful whaleship owners and remain prominent symbols of the prosperity generated by the nineteenth-century whaling trade,” says Mark Avery, the NHA’s director of historic properties. He will lead the tour, which is co-hosted by the NHA and the Nantucket Preservation Trust in recognition of Preservation Month.

Limited space is available and advance registration is required. $10 per person. Tour meets at the Whaling Museum, 13 Broad Street. To register, call 508-228-1894, ext. 0.
