WATER FACILITIES
Water supplied by the Wannacomet Water Co. (private). Iron stand
pipe 30’ x 80’ capacity 433,014 gals bottom of tank 61 ft above low
water mark, and is supplied by springs and by Wannacomet Pond. (area
8 acres). Water pumped to stand pipe by two Fairbank Morse gasoline
pumps and engines, of 16 HP – 300 gals per minute, and one
Worthington steam pump capacity 500 gals per minute.
Stand pipe located two miles West of town and connected (1879) by 8”
water pipe and (1901) by 10” water pipe, 11 miles of water pipes 4”
to 10” diam. 53 double hydrants 12’ triple hydrants. Average
pressure 40 to 50 lbs. Direct fire pressure 75 lbs per sq inch.
FIRE DEPARTMENT
196 men paid ten dollars annually to each, two firemen twenty
dollars each and five fire wardens fifty dollars each, and two
engineers ninety dollars each per annum. Gamewell fire alarm system
installed 1907, 23 boxes.
Two steam fire engines. Two hand engines. One chemical engine. Seven
2 wheel hose carts. Two hook and ladder trucks. 6000 ft. 2 ½”
standard hose.
From the above, the following is located at Siasconset. 30 men one
hand engine, one chemical engine, 500 ½ ft 2 ½ standard hose.
